Apple may have missed the March release window, and it would apparently do so for April, as the iPad Pro M3 OLED and the iPad Air M2 will arrive by May 2024 according to a new report.

It was initially said that Apple planned to release the new iPads during this time, by the end of March or by early April, but that seems to no longer be possible now as the company is still doing its final touches for the devices.

With the massive upgrades coming to the iPad, Apple is seeing significant challenges in developing these new devices that will fit what it wants the world to see soon enough.

new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman revealed that the Apple iPads of 2024 are still coming, but are pushed for 'early May' said people who "have knowledge the matter."

This centers on the OLED iPad Pro which will feature the latest M3 chips, alongside the iPad Air which will see the M2 chip to power it, but will also be getting a new 12.9-inch display, a first for the lineup.

The new iPad Pros featuring the codenames J717, J718, J720, and J721 will all receive the M3 chip, and it will launch alongside a revamped Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.

Why was there a Delay on the 2024 iPads?

Gurman regarded from the insiders that Apple's plans for the March and April releases were not met because of several software developments that it is yet to finish for both iPads.

Additionally, the iPad Pro's new OLED screen "requires complex new manufacturing techniques," which is said to be another cause of the delay.

Apple's iPad Developments for 2024

The last update for the iPad was in 2022, and the year skips for 2023 were said to mean that Apple is planning something big for the new tablets, centering on the latest tech and software.

As early as January 2023, it was said that 2024 would be the year of the iPads, with the iPad Pro getting a massive revamp with the arrival of the M3 chip.

Several leaks and speculations claimed that the iPad Pro will receive an OLED screen for its 11-inch and 12.9-inch variants, alongside MagSafe wireless charging, iPadOS 18, and more. On the other hand, the iPad Air would also receive its 12.9-inch screen, the first bigger version of the device, but it would get the 2022 M2 chip to power it.

The initial release dates of the iPad for 2024 were not met, with one centering on March, its known annual release schedule and the reported early April arrival said not to be possible anymore.

However, while it may seem like all hope is lost for 2024's new iPads, Gurman's latest report claimed that they are coming this May, with Apple still wrapping up several kinks before they arrive.
